Welcome to 1517!
In the spirit of the
Reformation, this section has been dedicated to warning you
about people and ideas that are at odds with the teaching of
the Bible. The fact that they appear means that we
don't support them.
We will not question their eternal destiny, but their
teaching is definitely not scriptural. To add someone
to the list,
write us.
Benny Hinn
Ministries Do we really need to say anything about
Benny? Well, what we do say amongst ourselves is
probably best left there, if you know what I mean.
"When you say I am a Christian, you are saying I am a
messiah in Hebrew." Oops! I mean French, or
Japanese, maybe its English?

Joyce Meyer Ministries Mrs. Meyer is a great speaker and
is often quite humorous. Unfortunately, she is often
heretical in her teaching and her business ethics are under
investigation. "You've got to pray the blood!!!" What?
Critique on Joyce:
The Preacher Who
Doesn't Tell It Like It Is The Truth Twisting And Tall Tales
Of Joyce Meyer by Paul R. Belli and G. Richard Fisher
Joel
Osteen Ministries Lots of fluff
but no meat. Where's Christ in his messages? He
seems to be eerily absent.
"I find today that people are not looking for theology.”
Didn't the Bible say that somewhere in reference to our
depravity?
A critique on Joel:
Joel
Osteen, the Megachurch, and the Mini-Gospel by Justin Taylor
Charles
Finney He began the Revivalism movement and was a
Pelagian. He, in effect, lied to become a Presbyterian
minister and later when he found out he disagreed with their
doctrines, used his position to attack the church.
Today, he is held up as a great leader of the church. No
wonder why we have problems.
A critique of Finney:
A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
Fred Phelps
He is the pastor of Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, KS.
You probably know them better for their slogan, "God Hates
Fags." Instead of displaying the love of Christ and
following the command to "love thy enemies" they have
decided to annihilate them. Yes, homosexuality is
wrong, but are we to treat them any different from the rest
of godless humanity? Vengeance belongs to the Lord
alone. We could link to his website but we don't want
to be under investigation by the FBI.
Angelic Revelations of
Divine Truth These people claim to have received new
teachings from Jesus. You know there is a problem when
one of the first things they say is, "temporarily set aside
questions about where the writings come from..." Why?
Because it came from mediums using automatic writing.
Sorry, I can't quite get past that. I guess we're just
closed minded.
Jesus
Seminar Started by Robert W. Funk in 1985, this group
has led the way for liberal "Christianity". "The
ultimate goal of this website is that of the Jesus Seminar
itself: to bring the quest of the historical Jesus of
Nazareth to the center of a global forum."
Unfortunately, everything they do is based on their own
opinions rather than fact. It is interesting that they
laud the degrees of their fellows but nowhere mention their
character or if they are believers in Christ. Doesn't
Romans say that man by their unrighteousness suppress the
truth? Case in point!
Michael J Rood Mr.
Rood is a modern day judaizer. He claims that almost
all of the church's practices are pagan and that we need to
practice the civil law of the Torah. There goes church
on Sunday! Of course, he claims that his teachings
alone are right and that he is qualified to make these
claims. Take a look at the pictures of him on the
website. Growing your beard out, wearing robes and
blowing a shofar must make you a real Messianic Jew compared
to those pagan Gentile (?) ones that wear ties and khaki
pants to church.
David J. Stewart
This guy's website makes you nauseous just looking at the
jumble of text and pics. The content has the same
effect. He is KJV only, hates the Roman Catholic
Church with zeal, and strongly anti-calvinist, deeming it a
heresy. The interesting
thing is that he has many Calvinists listed in his biography
of the great men of God. If Calvinism is a heresy, why
are those that teach it great men of God? Among many
other fun quotes from his site you'll find these:
"The threat of a
nuclear disaster is
imminent. The
New World Order is here! The stage is being set for the
antichrist. Mankind is destined
for total destruction!"
"This website will not be here forever.
The incarnation of the Beast is coming. Save information on
your hard drive!"
The Religious Society of
Friends/Quakers No, its not just the cute guy on
the oatmeal container. The Friends having been mixing
Gnostic mysticism with Christianity for the past several
centuries. Founded by George Fox who "discovered" that
there is the Divine Light within all men that just needs to
be awakened, the Friends deny the importance of the Cross
and basically teach panentheism. Unfortunately, their
theology has made some major inroads into evangelical
Christianity in the past several years and is one of the
main theologies the Emmergent Church draws from.
Creflo Dollar "Making a mark that cannot be
erased" is their slogan and is an invitation of judgment if
what he is saying is wrong. Unfortunately, for Mr.
Dollar, much of what he says in unscriptural. The
description of salvation on their site is man-centered and
has the charismatic description of baptism by the Holy
Spirit. The best (read: worst) are his prophecies.
I guess in this day and age the Spirit moves English
speaking prophets to prophesy in rhyme (and often
quasi-rhyme at that.) Dollar is just another sad
victim of the Word Faith movement.
Kenneth Hagin
Sr. and Jr. Though now deceased, the legacy of
Hagin still lives in his family. Called the Father of
the Word Faith movement this Positive Confession heresy has
claimed many preachers and lay people in its wake.
"You will never
receive anything from God beyond the words you speak."
What about the
free gift of God? Well, you have to speak that
too; it's called the sinners prayer.
